Dedication Ceremony to Be Held for New Barry “Mitch” Mitchell Athletic Complex

The Manchester High School community has another opportunity to come together to honor someone who meant so much to each one of us. On Saturday, May 20th, there will be an official ceremony to name the athletic complex here at MHS The “Barry ’Mitch’ Mitchell” Athletic Complex. This name fits well, as Mitch was always seen patrolling the outdoor athletic facilities in his golf cart, whether it was on a Friday night in November cheering on the MHS Football team or in May doing the same for the Baseball team. He had a huge impact on members of all sports teams.

“Mitch was a coach to me,” explained Arfan Ali, captain of the MHS Wrestling team. “Everyday he would push me on, calling me the Ultimate Warrior and saying he couldn’t wait to see me on the mat. I promised Mitch that I’d bring home a state title this year. The hours that I put into wrestling everyday are in his honor. I intend to make Mitch proud by honoring my promise to him and bringing MHS it’s first Class L wrestling title.”

Make sure to come out to the dedication ceremony on May 20th before the annual JI invitational track meet.
