Malcolm Butler Benched during Super Bowl

Malcolm Butler

A lot of fans were in shock to see New England Patriots corner Malcolm Butler benched in Super Bowl 52. The question still remains; why was he benched and what is his future in New England? According to Al Michael, Butler had practiced every play during the pre game warm up the night of Super Bowl 52. According to Michael, “The day we went to practice, [Butler] practiced every play,” Michael said. “So nobody had any idea about this”. It most definitely seems odd that a player like Butler, the proclaimed Super Bowl 49 hero, would be benched. Now a free agent, there is no telling where he will end up next season. He is reportedly on the Jets radar, but nothing is official as of right now. While Butler is coming off a shaky season that ended in the worst possible way, he has been a reliable defensive back since becoming the unlikely hero of the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX victory over the Seahawks. Hopefully we can see a productive year next season from him.
